First Steps to Healthy Community

As part of an integrated plan to build a healthy community, we at the Home Depot Foundation recommend everyone get involved with putting trees back in the ground. All too often we see trees being removed to make way for construction, but research has unequivocally shown that tress have a number of benefits and ought to be integrated into any plan to improve a community.

The following instructional video serves to give you basic information about how to plant a tree. Before you do plant, it is best to consult a local horticulture outfit or the Internet to see what trees are best suited for your area.
Note: the size and particular type of tree planted in the video may not be your desired size or type. However, this video is simply intended to give you a basic overview of the techniques of tree planting.




After you get your plant in the ground it is important to follow the correct procedures to maintain the health of the tree. The following is a basic list of issues to be considered.
-Proper Mulching
-Pruning
-Disease and insect damage
-Watering and fertilizing issues
